Eleonora Caliri

Project: Emotions on Canvas

My name is Eleonora Caliri. I was born in Milan on July 22, 1989, where I completed my studies up to high school graduation (a vocational school for tourism).

I am a girl with a deep passion for sports. Since childhood, I practiced swimming, ballet, tennis, canoeing, skiing, but what I loved the most was horseback riding. Unfortunately, at the age of 8, I underwent a serious surgery that left me in a wheelchair for about two years. However, thanks to my strong willpower and the support of those around me, I regained my strength, stood up from the wheelchair, and began making up for lost time.

I discovered painting thanks to a Christmas gift—a painter’s case! As I began mixing colors, I realized I could express my emotions through them, and part of my worries seemed to fade away. In every canvas, I find a piece of myself; I associate each color with a state of mind, and in this way, I can share who I am even with those who don’t know me.

In the meantime, my family and I moved to Porto Recanati, in the Marche region, where I enrolled at the University of Macerata. I am studying “Cultural Heritage and Tourism” because I want to enhance my skills.

On April 14, 2023, I achieved an important milestone: I graduated in Education, Cultural Heritage, and Tourism from the University of Macerata with a final grade of 101.
My thesis focused on gender-based economic violence and was titled “Women, Art, and Social Innovation: the experience of ‘Free Warriors’ by the Global Thinking Foundation.”

Shamsia Hassani

Excellence Award: Global Thinkers 2021

Born in April 1988, Shamsia Hassani is the first female graffiti artist in Afghanistan.

Through her artworks, Shamsia portrays Afghan women in a male-dominated society. Her art gives Afghan women a different face—a face with power, ambition, and the will to achieve their goals. The female figure she uses in her works represents a human being who is proud, strong, and capable of bringing positive change to people’s lives.

During the last decade of post-war Afghanistan, Shamsia’s works have brought a vibrant wave of color and recognition to all the women in the country. Her art has inspired thousands of women around the world and given new hope to Afghan female artists in the country. She has motivated hundreds of Afghans to express their creativity through her graffiti festival, art classes, and exhibitions in various countries around the world.

Agnieszka Lugeri

Project: The Elsewhere

Figurative painter Agnieszka Lugeri was born in Poland in 1989.

After earning her diploma from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome in 2012, she attended private courses at the studio of the artist Giorgio Dante. A lover of classical painting, she draws inspiration from the great masters of the past, particularly from the 19th century, guiding her academic research and giving life to paintings that, like open windows, reveal The Elsewhere, a realm filled with dreams, whispers, and myth. Her passion for the ancient has driven her artistic exploration, allowing her to rediscover academic painting and the value of pictorial technique.

Inspired by the great masters of the past, she approaches Anachronism, affirming the maternal role of Art as mimesis.

Cecilia Sammarco

TetraPride

Cecilia Sammarco is an Italian illustrator and painter based in Rome.

She attended MiMaster Illustration, specializing in editorial illustration, and graduated in Architecture from Sapienza University of Rome. She is interested in cultures, myths, folklore, and naïve art. Music is her greatest source of inspiration, especially afrobeat and funky vibes.

After a spinal cord injury, she became quadriplegic and created TetraPride, resuming drawing despite her paralyzed hands. It is a visual project made up of her illustrations, through which she introduces new models and protagonists connected to the world of disability—and beyond. It is also a way to express art as a therapeutic tool, serving as a vehicle for rebirth after a significant trauma.
